SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY

PAPER/NATURAL RESOURCES

The HENLEY & MARLOW seeks paper suppliers who share our commitment to environmental responsibility. We monitor the volume, recycled content and certified content of the paper that we purchase.

We use the GreenBlue Institute’s Environmental Paper Assessment Tool (EPAT) to help evaluate the environmental performance of the paper mills that supply our packaging paper. EPAT is a fact-based evaluation tool that allows us to reliably evaluate and communicate with our paper mills about their performance in areas including water and energy use, emissions and human health and safety. For more information, go to epat.org

REUSE AND RECYCLING

In addition to our focus on responsible packaging, we are committed to reusing and recycling whenever possible. We have several initiatives in place to support this commitment:

  • Whenever possible, we reuse cardboard boxes. In our New Jersey distribution center, approximately 50% of outbound boxes packed at the distribution center are reused inbound boxes.

  • When we are unable to reuse a box, it is recycled.

  • In 2016, we launched a polybag recycling program to reuse our inbound polybags and expect to expand this effort in 2017.

WASTE MINIMIZATION

Minimizing the waste that we generate and dispose of is important to us. Waste minimization will help us conserve natural resources; reduce emissions and impacts on landscapes and habitats; and lower costs. We are continually evaluating opportunities to minimize the generation of waste in our business.

RESPONSIBLE SOURCING

Through our Responsible Sourcing program, we’ve developed strong relationships with our key suppliers. As we expand our environmental initiatives into the supply chain, we expect to leverage those relationships to drive change and improve the environmental impact in the factories that manufacture HENLEY & MARLOW products.

In 2015, we trained the production team on the environmental impacts with our key suppliers and what can be done to reduce those impacts. Additionally, we surveyed our suppliers to understand what is currently being done in the factories to conserve energy and water and reduce waste. Going forward, we will use this information to identify best practices and partner with suppliers to improve the environmental impact associated with manufacturing our products.

COMMUNICATION AND ENGAGEMENT

Engaging our suppliers and customers to raise awareness and gain insight is important to us. Our customers are passionate about our brand and expect great quality, an amazing experience and, increasingly, responsible business practices. We are committed to meeting these expectations.

We donate unsold merchandise through Good360, a nonprofit organization redefining charitable giving by creating a circle of good that includes companies, charities and individuals working together to make the business of giving simpler, more efficient and more effective. Partnering with the nation’s top brands and a network of more than 40,000 prequalified nonprofit members serving communities across the United States and the world, the organization distributes, on average, more than $300 million in donated goods each year to help children, veterans, families, disaster relief efforts and more.
